Rubber duck is a slang term given to the flexible rubber antennas supplied with hand held transceivers.

The term is somewhat derogatory since those types of antennas are generally inexpensive and at times inefficient. They are intended to get a new radio on the air as quickly as possible, but are easily replaced by higher quality antennas.
