Australian Communications and Media Authority
The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) is the organisation of the Government of Australia responsible for radio and other communications policy, including the issue of radio licenses including those for Amateur Radio.
ACMA has issued a "class license" for Amateur Radio operations in Australia. Under this, individual licenses are issued.
In 2009, ACMA enteres into a contractual relationship with the Wireless Institute of Australia (WIA) for management of Amateur Radio licenses, wherein the WIA will issue to ACMA a license recommendation after conducting all management activities; ACMA will then act on that recommendation by issuing an Amateur license (or amendment.)
Overseas Amateurs
Amateurs visiting Australia can use a class licence that authorises operation for up to three months, subject to the conditions of the licence.
